China suspends Bitcoin mining and blocks exchanges

Local miners will have until 2 pm on Wednesday (local time) to end activities, as determined by the Changji Reform and Development Commission, a city hall in Xinjiang. “Immediately order your company to suspend production for rectification before 2:00 pm on June 9, 2021 and report the suspension of production and rectification to Changji Prefecture Development,” the statement read.Blocking exchanges in search engines Exchanges are blocked by search engines a few days after China blocked social media accounts of cryptocurrency influencers. Now, sites like Baidu and Sogou have stopped showing search results for Binance, Huobi and OKEx. “At the same time, it wasn't just search engines that blocked the top three exchanges. But also social networks, such as Weibo (Twitter from China) and Zhihu (quora from China)”, tweeted Wu this Wednesday (9). On Saturday (5), users who wrote about cryptoactives had their social media accounts blocked. Anyone who tried to access the platforms received a notification stating that they had violated the social network's guidelines and “relevant laws and regulations”. However, this isn't the first time China's platforms have banned accounts from cryptocurrency influencers. In 2019, Weibo banned the pages of Binance co-founder Yi He and entrepreneur Justin Sun.
