Police closes cryptocurrency farm with 3,800 PlayStation 4

The cryptocurrency mining is not an illegal activity in Ukraine, which is usually an interesting destination for those interested, due to the cold temperatures and low energy cost. However, it was precisely the electricity theft indicators that led the authorities to close the place and seize the devices; according to the government, those responsible for the operation used false meters, exposed to employees of the energy supplier, while stealing from official lines. The losses due to the activity, according to the official disclosure, are approximately US$ 256,000. The account of the operation, however, does not mention arrests or indictments, but cites that the operation also involved raiding the addresses of the scheme's operators, obtaining documents that could be used in the charges against them. Investigations are continuing, as, according to authorities, there are indications that employees of the electricity supplier may also be involved in the scheme. It's bad news for players. The gaming industry is still feeling strongly the reflexes of the scarcity of GPUs driven by the pandemic and, later, the cryptocurrency outbreak; should the possibility of doing this work on consoles become popular, it's another downside to an already pretty sad story that involves outrageous prices on GPUs and a lack of new-gen devices on shelves around the world.
